Ninja Gaiden Review

Ninja Gaiden is known for it's difficulty. And this NES classic definitely lives up to that name. You play as Ryu Hayabasa. Your father has recently been killed in a duel. Ryu goes off to find out who killed his father, and why. You slash your way through other ninjas, wizards, soldiers, panthers, bats, knights, birds, and many other strange enemies.

The cinematics in this game are simply amazing. Each chapter opens up with a graphically stunning (for it's time) cinematic. For example, the opening sequence depicts two ninjas fighting for their honor. Simply amazing. The frame rate is decent, and the graphics look almost of SNES caliber. The game isn't hard because of faultiness, like glitches and etc. but because of the clever enemy placement, and general platforming. Although some of the enemies are blatantly unfair (for example, a robed warrior throws swords over a gap, and you have to jump through the swords) but most provide a fun challenge to defeat.

Overall, this game is one that you shouldn't miss (like I did, the first time around). Pick it up either on the classic NES or on the Wii's Virtual Console. Either way, it's great fun.
