Sin and Punishment Review
Sin and Punishment Review
You've heard the saying "It's OK to be different", right? The saying implements directly to this game. It does what most developers would never do. S and P is 1200 Wii points, the highest to date on the VC. The 200 added points is not necessary, but you will still get a great game, even if it's $2 overpriced. Not only will you purchase a great game, but voting for more foreign titles. It's great to see Nintendo fixed S and P to feel at home on the VC. Now all we need are the original Fire Emblem's translated...
S and P takes place in the year 2007, where deadly insects(Ruffians) threaten to destroy the earth itself. Some human baddies also have this sacred blood in them that gives them inhuman powers. The storyline is confusing mainly because this is a fast paced game. Therefore, not much scenes are informative. This doesn't make S and P's storyline bad, bit because of it's genre, it is forced to do this.
It's sad to see that most Nintendo gamers will ignore this title because it has Mr.Green and Red are not in it, or developed my the big N. S and P truly is a great example of quality 3rd party support. Many people including me agree that games were better back in the day, and this is one of them. It's 100% hardcore, so don't expect it to be easy, or side quests that have to do with cooking up a meal for your granny.
You'll be set out to fight the baddies with your rapid fire gun, and Katana. S and P is an on rails game, but don't fret, this is not like RE:UC rails. With all of the negative critisism toward RE:UC, it's hard to believe me, but the developers have found out some way to make it fun. You move left and right with the D-PAD, aim with the C-Stick, and shoot with L. You've got the military tactic such as rolling by tapping the D-PAD, and then press the R button to jump.
What about the bosses? They're great. Most bosses suffer simply because they have no variety and can be beaten generically. S and P has variety, imagination, and badass battles. You will be chasing a monster platform to platform, sword duals, and sky fights. It's simply satisfying. There are a lot of bosses, so don't worry if it's a rare thing.
Because of Wii's terrible 3rd party support, it's funny how S and O's graphics look better than some Wii games_Pro Street 4x4). The effects are surprisingly well done, too. There'll be rust splattering out, and beautiful explositions. There's a lot of explositons too, because most of the levels are destructible.
S and P feels like an arcade game. So it'll be short, around an hour, this is basically the only major complaint. There are gamers that like this so they can come back to the game easily for higher scores. The rest of us however, like lengthy games, and sometimes with a heavily focused storyline. Because of this, it may take some people to respect S and P, but it's surprising charm should help get away from that.
"Get Bonus!", "Cling". You'll hear these sounds all throughout, and with some voice acting. The voice acting is never to cheesym or drags on. But with the stroyline up again, what's going on?! The music tracks have some nice catchy beats, but most of them sound somewhat similar.
Sin and Punishment is inevitibly one of the better games on the VC, and is highly recommended. Even with it's non lengthy campaign, it's more than worth playing on the higher difficulties and to improve your scores. Just don't ignore it because it's not developed by Nintendo, cause then you'd be missing out on experiencing one of the many great foreign titles we missed out on.
