Super Mario Bros Review

Super Mario Bros Review

After a long crash in the videogames market following the failure of ET and Pac-Man on the Atari 2600, Super Mario Bros. is the game that re-invented videogaming and made way for all classic and modern games to follow. But one phrase has made the success of this game even more humbling:

"Super Mario Bros. is the best selling video game of all time."

Meaning it outsold many heavyweight gaming giants that soon came hearafter, including Pokémon, Pac-Man, Zelda and even modern behemoths such as Halo and Gears of War. Now a good reviewer knows not to show any bias in his reviews, but I think I can safely say, the millions of people who bought Super Mario Bros. have great sense. Super Mario Bros.'s unrivaled success spawned a mediocre film starring Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, many sequels and remakes, toys, comics, TV shows, look-alikes, rap songs, keyrings and much more.

Graphics:
Great for the era, obviously not as great now, but enough pixels in the right places to make it a pinnacle of the NES generation.

Sound:
Who can forget the music at the beginning of level 1-1? Who? It is one of the most influential tunes in videogaming history. Just try and forget it. Try! The rest of the game has similar monophonic riffs such as that, but none equal the masterful rythm of the original Mario riff.

Gameplay:
Tightest control in the history of games. Simple platforming, the original platformer.

Value:
Well worth £5. Seriously. People used to spend £££'s trying to find this game elsewhere, and there offering it to us for just 500 Wii Points. But ... this is a review for the VC version. So just take everything I just said, it's the exact same.
